How to flash MIUI 12 update on your Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco phone through recovery ROM

  The MIUI 12 is the latest iteration of Xiaomi's custom Android skin which was launched in April of this year 2020. It is based on Google Android 10 and comes with a couple of new features and improvements like improved dark mode, control panel, better privacy control, floating windows and many more.

A couple of Xiaomi's eligible devices have already gotten the new MIUI 12 update, mainly in China. There are however still a lot of eligible devices that are yet to receive the update mainly in Europe, Russia, Turkey, Indonesia and India.

Xiaomi already released the Beta stable version of the MIUI 12 for most of its eligible devices, but unfortunately they are only available for beta testers who signed up for the early Pilot testing of the MIUI 12. Not to worry, I will be teaching you how to manually install the MIUI 12 update through recover, even if you didn't signup for the Beta program.

Before proceeding with this procedure, it is advisable to first check if OTA update is available for your phone by following the simple steps below.

How to Manually check if MIUI 12 OTA update is available on your Redmi, Poco or Xiaomi Phone

• Go to settings.
• Tap on About phone >> Software Update
  

• Tap on the MIUI 11 Logo in the middle of the screen 10 times.
• After that, tap on the three dots at the top right corner of the screen.
• Tap on update settings and turn on Receive updates early.
  

• After that, Go back and tap on Check for updates.
  
  
  
• If you get No update available, then try the second or third method below to manually install MIUI 12 on your phone.

How to manually Update Xiaomi phone to MIUI 12 through Recovery
If you still have the stock recovery on your phone then try out the first method, but if this first method doesn't work for you or you have a custom Twrp installed, then use the second method.

How to flash MIUI 12 Recovery Update on your Redmi, Poco or Xiaomi phone with Stock Recovery
Requirements:

• Xiaomi MIUI 12 Recovery ROM: Download HERE.

How to Install:

• Download the Recovery ROM from the link provided above and rename it to update.zip
• Make sure you download the right version for your phone region.
• Copy the downloaded file directly into your phone's internal storage.
• Turn off your phone.
• Reboot to recovery mode by pressing both the Power button and Volume Up button simultaneously.
• Navigate with your Volume up and down button, and use the power button for selecting an option.
• Select install update.zip and the update process will begin.
• Your phone will reboot once completed, but if it doesn't, just manually select reboot from the options.

If the two methods above doesn't work for you, then try updating to MIUI 12 by using a custom TWRP recovery. Below is full procedure and detailed guide.

Requirements:

• Unlocked Bootloader:  Click HERE for steps
• TWRP Recovery: Download HERE
• Xiaomi MIUI 12 Recovery ROM: Download HERE.

How to Install:

• Make sure you have Twrp recovery installed or check the procedure HERE.
• Download the Recovery MIUI 12 firmware for your Xiaomi phone the LINK above.
• Make sure you download the right version for your phone region.
• Copy the downloaded file to your phone's internal storage.
• Back up your important phone data as you might loose it.
• Turn off your phone.
• Reboot to recovery mode by pressing both the Power up and Volume up button together.
• wipe system, data and cache but it is not compulsory (You will loose your files if you do so).
• Go back and click on install.
• Select the recovery ROM file you downloaded earlier and swipe right to begin the installation process.
• Once the installation is completed, your phone will reboot automatically.
• In case it doesn't reboot, just manually select reboot from the options.
