Xiaomi releases MIUI 12 update for Redmi 9 (Lancelot) and Mi 8 SE (Sirius)

Even though the Xiaomi Redmi 9 was launched just about 2 months after Xiaomi officially launched the latest MIUI 12, the phone still shipped with last year's MIUI 11 out of the box.

Since the roll out of the MIUI 12 kicked off, Xiaomi has been working on releasing the update to all eligible devices and there are however still a lot of devices yet to receive the new MIUI 12 update and one of them is the Redmi 9 (also known as the Redmi 9 Prime in India).

Xiaomi has however kicked off the rollout of the MIUI 12 update for the Redmi 9 / 9 Prime (Codename: Lancelot) with the build version number V12.0.4.0.QJCCNXM. This update is still based on Google Android 10 and at the moment, only a few randomly selected users in China are receiving the update and this are mostly beta testers.

Since those in China have already started receiving this update, it wouldn't take long before other regions also starts receiving the update. This has always been Xiaomi's practice.

Aside from the Redmi 9, the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE (Codename: Sirius) which is a China exclusive smartphone has also started receiving the update with the build version number V12.0.2.0.QEBCNXM. The Mi 8 SE was launched back in 2018 work the MIUI 9.5 based on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

The Mi 8 SE has so far received the MIUI 10 and MIUI 11 update and now MIUI 12. It also got updated from the Android 8 Oreo to Android 9.0 Pie and now Android 10.

Just like with every other Xiaomi software update, this update is being rolled out in batches and will first be made available to those who signed up for the beta pilot test program. Regular users will however get the public release build soon.
